How to Spend a Girls Weekend in the Staunton, VA area

As a Staunton native, self-proclaimed foodie, and wedding planner for the past 5 years, I have lots of tips and suggestions for how to plan the best girls weekend ever to Staunton (aka the Shenandoah Valley’s very own Stars Hallow!) Whether you’re coming for your bridal shower, bachelorette party, or just a weekend away, I have just the itinerary for you!

Where to Stay:

There’s tons of great options within the historic downtown, including hotels, Airbnb’s, inns, and more. Here’s a quick list of some of my favorites!

  • Gibson’s Warehouse: a unique, micro-hotel stay in the Wharf district of downtown Staunton

  • Be Still Getaways manages some super unique stays all around the area! These are great for larger groups and think of all the fun details.

  • Hotel 24 South is a great historic option right in the heart of downtown Staunton

  • Blackburn Inn: this place is beautiful, a short walk to downtown, and has a beautiful spa on site

Friday Night:

After you check in and drop off your items, I’d grab some drinks or dinner and then go check out a show at the American Shakespeare Center. Even if you aren’t super into theater, the shows are outstanding and so much fun!

If you’re group is more into live music, Redbeard Brewing and Ciders from Mars often have local bands performing on their patios in the evenings. Check their websites for details about the lineups. You might even be able to squeeze in a workshop at Staunton Clayground, Burrow & Vine, or The Art Hive - all local businesses that encourage creativity and host local workshops and maker-spaces. (Linked in Saturday’s agenda, too!)

Friday Happy Hour:

Accordia Bistro: Wine Tasting flights all Friday evening!

Yelping Dog: 5-7pm Happy Hour

Queen City Bistro: 4-6:30pm Happy Hour

Dinner Spots:

The Depot Grill // Taste of India // Byer’s St. Bistro // Mill St. Grill

Things to Do:

American Shakespeare Center (shows rotate, check website) // Live Music at Redbeard Brewing or Ciders from Mars // Browse Beverley St. Shops (most close at 7pm) // Get Creative at Staunton Clayground, the Art Hive, or Burrow & Vine

Night Cap Drinks:

The Green Room // Baja Bean (try the house margarita) // Byer’s Street Bistro (best espresso martinis in town!)

Saturday

There’s so much to do in Staunton area on Saturdays, so it definitely depends on the vibe of your group!

Saturday Morning:

  • Grab a coffee or matcha from Crucible Coffee Roasters

  • Explore the Staunton Farmer’s Market and check out the local food trucks and vendors

  • Check out a view from the city on the pedestrian bridge, behind the Depot Grill and Staunton Amtrak station

  • Go explore the shops on Beverley Street. Some of my favorites are: Billy Opal, Words Matter, Made by the People for the People, Staunton Antiques, Burrow & Vine (and of course, visit us at Juniper Lane!)

  • Grab lunch at a local spot: Remedy Burger, Shenandoah Pizza, Chicano Boy Taco, or The Pampered Palette

Saturday Afternoon:

Take a break and relax a little at the Blackburn Inn Spa. They offer special appointments for groups so you and all the girls can hang out together at the spa!

If your group is more outdoorsy, there’s plenty of hiking options along the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenandoah National Park. One of my favorite and easy options is the Blue Ridge Tunnel, which is only a 20 min drive from Staunton.

As mentioned above, there’s also creative options like Staunton Clayground for group class experiences, or rotating workshops offered at Burrow & Vine and The Art Hive. These would be perfect afternoon activity to do with your group! Be sure to check in advance; the classes and times rotate.

Saturday Evening:

  • I’d encourage you to spend some time outside at a local brewery, winery, or farm to table restaurant. This could be a great time to slow down, take photos with your group, and spend an extended period of time at a restaurant.

  • Stable Craft Brewing, Waynesboro VA // Hazy Mountain, Afton VA // Blue Mountain Brewery, Afton VA - all beautiful outdoor spaces with nice views, great food and locally made drinks

  • Zynodoa // Blu Point Seafood // Chop House Tavern - options in Downtown Staunton and great spots for upscale, intimate dinners.

Sunday

Sunday Morning/Afternoon:

Before you go your separate ways, be sure to grab a pastry and drink from Reunion Bakery and go for a walk around Gypsy Hill Park! The park is about 1.3 mile loop and is paved, flat, and a fun and easy way to get some movement in.

And what would be a wedding-weekend to Staunton without stopping by our very own Juniper Lane to experience our vintage bridal salon and find your dream wedding dress! ;) Groups have traveled from all over the state of Virginia to explore our 100+ options of vintage wedding gowns, and it’s a great way to end your weekend and make special memories with your wedding crew!
